Votes for Women

May 1, 2008 – 11:02 am

Hillary Clinton doesn’t just get to vote; she gets to ask for votes. Thanks in no small part to the suffragettes who won women the 19th Constitutional Amendment in 1920 (after the birth of many grandmothers alive today!). The amendment guaranteed women the right to vote. Also, by extension, the right to run for political office. In this collage, Solitaire Miles, a Chicago artist and jazz vocalist, links Clinton to the activists who paved the way to her candidacy (thanks, Sarolta Cump):

A simple, direct reminder of how much things have changed.
