Confusing McCain/Palin Sign En Route to Dover Speedway

Brendan Greeley lives in his hometown of Annapolis, Maryland, and works as multimedia editor for The Economist. He and his wife Beth like karaoke. Loud karaoke. I know this because, full disclosure, the Greeleys are friends.

Last month, Brendan went to a NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Dover International Speedway in Delaware. On his way there, he saw this sign. (Thanks, Brendan.)

Question One: Why are there quotation marks around the names? Are we talking McCain and Palin impostors? Or a promising entry for the highly entertaining “Blog” of “Unnecessary” Quotation Marks?

Question Two: Is the sign pro or anti McCain/Palin? It starts off on a positive — if monarchic — note but then suggests that Palin would be calling the shots…
