Coffee Woke Her to Political Freedom

Starbucks for voters

Heather Whittaker goes all out: waterskiing, jumping out of airplanes, and generally being “different.” She and her pastor husband Carlos live in Atlanta. Heather is proof that Starbucks’s offer of free coffee for voters actually worked. It made her, sheepishly, decide to cast a ballot. (Thanks, Sue Salinger.)

What has America come to? I am ashamed to confess that this brought a smile to my face, instead of being proud to vote in a country where I have the freedom to choose, I became motivated to vote for a free cup of joe. Then I saw my greed… with all the drama surrounded these elections I was beginning to feel like giving up, then this simple video made me realize I would rather have a free cup of coffee over honoring the lives of those who died for my right to vote. How sad is that. I do not want that to be me. Nope, this free cup of coffee HAS motivated me to vote by allowing me to get a grip on the freedom I have. I may or may not cash in on the coffee, I will however respect my country! I’m gonna vote.

It turns out that Starbucks’s freebie could be a felony, so now the company is giving free coffee to everyone today. But vote anyway. It sounds like Heather’s going to. It’s definitely easier than waterskiing.
